Discord Server Rules

  1. Don’t be a jerk
    1. Bigotry and hate speech of any kind are not allowed here. Respect your fellow players. Real life politics, religion, and related debates do not belong on this server.
  2. In Character (IC) and Out of Character (OOC) separation
    1. Please remember that players are not their characters, and characters are not their human players. We are writing a collaborative work of fiction together. A character has every right to be vile, but you as the player of such a character must be respectful out of character. If in character interactions are making you uncomfortable, communicate with your RP partner.
    2. In order to easily distinguish between OOC and IC messages, and for a more readable roleplay experience, this server requires the use of a bot called Tupperbox. See the Tupperbox guide for more information.
  3. Content
    1. There are no restrictions on content here. However, you must plan ahead with your RP partner if you are planning on doing anything that might be considered dark. All roleplay threads must be tagged with an appropriate content rating, detailed in the Channel-Specific Rules section.
  4. Effort, Grammar, and Fun
    1. Put some effort into your replies. Experiment with your writing. We are all here to have fun, but try your best to use proper English grammar in your longform replies. Typos are fine, and there is no strict rules on post lengths, but do try your best to write engaging replies in order to make things fun for other players.

Discord Channel Map and Guidelines

More specific guidelines per RP channel.

General (OOC) Section

#general

In order to view channels on this server, you need to first carefully read all of the rules and guidelines in this channel. Once you are ready to abide by these rules, ping @Game Master in #general to obtain the Rule Respecter role.

#art

For searchability, archival, legibility, and the Zapier bot not breaking purposes, discussion is not allowed in #art . Any discussion will be deleted. However, if you would like to comment or discuss a certain piece, you may create a thread inside of the #art channel. Do not post images or attachments in #art discussion threads. Emojis and stickers are fine.

Roleplay (IC) Section

Roleplay threads are to be tagged and rated under the player’s discretion with the Archive of Our Own’s four-tiered content rating system:

  • G General Audiences (G): Contains little to no disturbing, violent, or sexual content.
  • T Teen and Up Audiences (T): Contains moderate disturbing, violent and/or sexual content, and may include strong language.
  • M Mature (M): Contains strong disturbing, violent and/or sexual content and often includes constant strong language. Generally mature or dark themes.
  • E Explicit (E): E-rated writing is either pornographic/erotic, features strong sexual content, or is extremely violent or disturbing.

This system applies to all roleplay channels in the Roleplay (IC) section.

#ooc-rp-discussion

This channel is meant for OOC discussion, questions, comments, or anything relating to current roleplay threads happening in the roleplay category.

#longform

The standard RP forum. Longform RP threads should be written in third person present tense, unless discussed otherwise with your RP partner. The Game Master will communicate to player characters in second person present tense.

#shortform

A less restrictive RP forum. Posts here may be shorter than the ones in #longform, and they may not be held to the same grammatical standards. This forum is mainly for quick, experimental RPs, or for quick face-to-face character conversations when you don’t feel like writing all out prose.

#root-cortex-dms

On Aia, many characters communicate with each other through the Root Cortex–a technology similar to the real world Internet. To interface with the Root Cortex, comsprouts are used. comsprouts are similar to real world smart phones, but unlike cell phones, comsprouts are living, organic plant matter that need to be nurtured and cared for. Some even say they have emotions of their own…

This forum is for in-character group chats and direct messages. Grammar rules do not apply here (type messages as your character would type), and sometimes the tone of the Root Cortex chats can get silly.

This forum is for private messages between characters. DMs might happen during a longform or shortform RP. DMs do not have to be one-on-one chats–characters may DM several other characters at once, as long as they have their contact information.

#root-cortex-groups

The hub page for Root Cortex group chats. Much like real life Discord servers. characters may view and join in on any groups marked as 📢 Public. 🔒 Private groups are invite-only, and your character cannot see these groups unless they are explicitly invited by the group administrator of any particular group. Any character may create a group of their own, public or private.

#grapevine

Grapevine is a social media platform platform that runs on the Root Cortex. A character may create a personal blog in this channel and label it with various tags.

#alternate-universe

A just for fun roleplaying channel for settings that do not take place on Aia.
